An almost finished piece based on my new "Imaginary Cities" series. These always start with some grid-based isometric compositions which are then recomposed, restructured until they reach their destination.
Feedback is welcome on some aspect that appear in the captions.
The image as it is now. I first didn't notice the face which is entirley unintentional. What appears as eyes are just spaces between the building blocks.

It all starts with an isometric "construction element". I took inspiration from the former Walled City of Kowloon.

The blocks are then assembled in this intentionally confusing structure. I like how the optical illusion adds movement to a rigid structure.

First version: The grid is complete, light effects and additional textures added...

I love this "pulp noir" feeling. Many Noir novels published in the sixties had these covers with a very muted palette.

Some more Noir...
and some more...

Horror! when seen as a whole, the picture is a mess without a good focal point and movement (in my opinion). I haven't printed it yet but I feel it is too muddy.

I have now changed the color balance, added some gradients for photographic toning and it starts to gain some interesting differences from one block to the other, each with a somehow different mood...

The piece looks less "Noir/Pulp"  but has gained several areas where the eye can find its way...
All the way down...
And the final image again, or at least as it is now. I would like to get opinions on what version works better.
